I’ve been enjoying the opportunity to work with Emily Bolton Ditkovski, Director of the theatre program at the Williston-Northampton school. It was her production of Fiddler on the Roof that drove me to break out the watercolors for the first time in eons. Now I’m following up with the poster for Neil Simon’s Rumors, which opens this week. Williston’s ambitious season continues with the Kabuki-inspired Wondrous Tales of Old Japan and The Laramie Project —posters to come. Being a regular Chicago kid, I didn’t know anything about New England prep schools until I started working with the fine folks at Williston Northampton. I’m impressed.
It’s been great to paint again lately, and to work with theatre people, both worlds I’d moved away from in recent years. Now I’ve been able to craft a number of posters for the stage, from clowns to operas. The U Mass Theater Dept season has been an excellent project, with more still to come. The poster for Suzan-Lori Parks’ Venus should be done soon….
